The Plough Inn was first established in 1850 in the heart of the Wiltshire village of Durrington, and has been serving the needs of the community for over 170 years so far. Over that time, there have been many many changes of course, but the pub still remains. In Recent years, the pub fell into the ownership of a national chain, but in really wasn't their sort of place, and they planned to sell the site for redevelopment. Having got wind of this, a group of residents got together, and successfully arranged for the pub to be registered as an Asset of Community Value, thus preventing it being sold for any other reason than a pub. The chain made little investment in the pub as it declined, and eventually put it up for sale. It was bought by a private investor, who then put the lease up for sale. It was necessary to act quickly, and initially three, but now two local benefactors provided the cash to buy the lease and reopen the pub as a Free House.

Members of the community stepped forward, and a small army of workers set about fully refurbishing the pub, giving freely of their time, skills, and sheer sweat to create a pub for the village to be proud of.  The COVID crisis brought the pub to the brink, but with everyone's goodwill, the pub remains, and in much better condition than it has been for years.
The garden has been upgraded, and now has two pergolas to protect from wind and rain, plentiful seating, dedicated non-smoking area, and a barbecue, which is available to hire for customers who wish to make use of it. The garden itself can be hired for group events, for which catering can be arranged, as the pub kitchen has now been brought back into service.
Inside, the furniture has been upgraded too, and we are reintroducing traditional pub games, such as Hammer the Nail, Darts and Pool.
From the restored kitchen, we can provide a simple menu of pub food, and we have expanded the range of drinks in response to customers' preferences.


Our desire is to create a friendly, welcoming and pleasant environment for our customers to enjoy, and to continue to be a traditional village pub, and a hub for the Durrington Community.
